A Valued Workplace is a socially driven organization that recognizes the strategic & financial imperative of prioritizing mental wellbeing & quality of life of staff
When you have a Valued Workplace, you feel supported by your team & the leadership. You are united in shared values & organizational mission. You know exactly how you are demonstrating those values through daily work. Stress triggers from work are recognized, mitigated, or offer support for coping & adapting
When you are employed at a Valued Workplace, life's losses (e.g. divorces, serious illnesses or injuries, deaths) & accompanying grief are not ignored. Procedures & policies that support an individual's unique grieving process are in place. For example, it is common during grief for people to dive deeper into work as a distraction from life's losses, but studies indicate workload should be reduced, if possible, to aid in healing
When a Valued Workplace leads with compassion, there is a reduction in employee turnover, reduction in absenteeism, reduction in medical insurance expenditures, increased productivity, heightened morale, & greater customer satisfaction

Coordinated Care: When a young mother's child is stillborn, her colleagues establish a coordinated grief care team to help with her workload, provide comfort when grief episodes are triggered, & reduce the grieving mother's exposure to customers' infants
Code Purple: In medical environments, receiving the news of a serious illness diagnosis, serious injury prognosis, or death of a loved one is stressful & can be traumatic. Implementing Code Purple- a team-based approach that provides grief support, mental health safety checks, & compassion can dramatically improve health outcomes & patient loyalty
Compassionate Welfare Check: In academic settings, when students don't complete assignments, conduct a Compassionate Welfare Check before the end of the semester to offer support, guidance, & share mental wellbeing coping & adapting skills
