For Mental Wellbeing to Valued at Work & in Community
Prioritizing mental wellbeing is a strategic & financial necessity
Disengaged workers have
37% higher absenteeism,
49% more accidents,
60% more errors,
resulting in 16% lower profitability.
The standard remedy is to bring in a motivational speaker, create "workarounds" or hire new staff. This is costly, ineffective, unsustainable
Get to the root cause: disengaged workers are experiencing stress, loss, trauma, or grief & require compassion & a sense of belonging
Reassure your team that you care. Reduce office stress triggers, align values with workflow processes, establish policies that support caregiving, grieving, or experiences with serious illnesses & restore vitality, stability, & innovation while becoming the most desired place to work
Together, we can make a difference
Understanding the science of how stress shapes our brain, body, breath, & buddies is fundamental
The average person spends 80% of the day operating in a stress fueled, survival mode. Too much stress leads to inflammation & chronic disease. Up to 90% of all chronic diseases are caused by unresolved stress, unhealed trauma, & unsupported grief. The standard remedy is to ignore, medicalize, incarcerate, or experience these issues as a personal failure to overcome privately
Stop this pattern. Compassion for ourselves & others expedites healing & increases wellbeing, while the strength of our social connections (belonging) is the strongest indicator of longevity
Learn practical tactics on how to rewire thinking & reframe conversations with compassion for stronger relationships, improved health, & greater quality of life
Together, we can heal
Knowing you belong & that you can be there for others during times of need is powerful
We are facing a public health crisis that is rarely discussed- loneliness. Loneliness from stress, loss, trauma, or death. The standard remedy is to ignore, stigmatize, or medicalize these issues. However, loss & loneliness are NOT medical issues with social aspects. Rather, social issues with medical aspects
The deficit is not within the individual, the deficit is within the community. Therefore, a social approach is needed to unite helping professionals with friends & family to instill belonging, continuity of care, & support for healing
A Compassionate Community establishes a mental wellbeing preparedness plan, shares data across multi-sectors, engages in expressive community activities, & creates a Town Charter to reduce deaths of despair
Together, we can lead with compassion
The story we tell ourselves about the stress we are experiencing shapes our brain, breath, body, & buddies. When you change the story, you change the world. Learn how to change your stressful stories for improved health and wellbeing.
As a result of this practice, we've been able to measure an 11% increase in empathy in individuals who practice Compassionate Conversations with 2-3 people for 10 minutes each day. To our knowledge, there is no other communication strategy that has been able to generate the same degree of effectiveness.
Working in medical care is challenging. We can experience the extreme highs and lows of life throughout a single shift. We jump from task to task without pause and keep going relentlessly until the job is done- then start over the next day. This physical and emotional fatigue is often enhanced when there is a misalignment between personal and professional values, resulting in low satisfaction, burnout, then turnover. During this session, we will identify the early warning signs and root causes of a distressed team and classify the common causes of burnout, so you can mitigate these symptoms before quality becomes compromised, the rest of the team gets “infected” with negativity and people start quitting.
When a team prioritizes mental wellbeing, it is easier to overcome, manage, and cope with the inherent challenges of delivering care. To create this environment, we need to practice and apply useful tools that focus on integrating resilience practices into our daily perspectives, workflow, and organizational culture. Tools and case studies will be shared.
The latest research indicates that organizations that prioritize mental wellbeing as a key indicator of success foster innovation in practice, have greater retention, and become a highly sought out employer for the next generation of team members.
An organization’s strongest asset is the health of its employees. Health care does not happen in the hospital or the clinic-that’s sick care. The care of our health happens at work. The greatest indicator of your health is NOT your level of health insurance, access to the gym, or even access to medical services—it’s your boss. When we work with people who are stressed and burned out-quality and trust become compromised, errors increase, as does absenteeism, medical claims for treating chronic disease, insurance rates and turnover.
Stress levels most often occur when there is a misalignment between values and actions, thus leaving drive and purpose compromised and status quo unaltered. This is expensive, faulty and fatal. Therefore, resilience must begin at the individual level before resilience practices can be translated into organizational or community approaches.
When resilience is utilized as a vital economic strategy, we can better achieve our mission and go home at the end of the workday without needing to recover. Being intentional about our mental wellbeing simply, makes -- cents.

JOIN US for this engaging, three-part, one hour online workshop (3-hours total) introducing you to the power and benefits of breathwork, with Dr. Olaf Kuhlke.
In this practical introduction, you will learn about the science of breathing properly, practice breathing techniques intended to relax & energize you. For instance, did you know- you will be able to hold your breath up to 2 minutes even after a week of training?
Breath Work is one of the simplest, most effective and most researched methods to help you handle stress and manage negative emotions. As such, its integration into daily life - and work - can provide significant benefits for employers and employees alike.
In this one-hour, online workshop, we will provide an overview of breathing exercises for relaxation and concentration, and illustrate how and when employees can embed it into their daily calendar, and how businesses can make breath work part of their business strategy and practices, from integrating it into meetings to creating time and space for this key practice towards better employee health.
The number one indicator of high performing teams is trust in taking creative risks. For many organizations: distress, mega multi-tasking, and the fear of failure thwart innovation and creativity. Opting for the status quo because it is “comfortable and stable” becomes more the norm resulting in a lack of natural curiosity. However, lack of curiosity in the workplace leads to poor morale, distrust, fatigue, depersonalization of patients and peers, and a culture of burnout. In our current medical care environment, now is the time to change the status quo and embrace creativity in the workplace.
We will ground the discussion of creativity and curiosity with a biopsychosocial overview of how creativity can thrive or be thwarted in clinical settings. Creativity, curiosity, and caring are concepts interwoven in the foundation of rural health care. Healthcare providers are natural innovators as the process of delivering care is the same as the process for design thinking used in the creative industries. Both require empathy and an acute ability to hack problems.
Applying this process to redesigning an experience vs coordinating logistics demonstrates the shift in perspective needed in medical care today to prioritize compassion, trust, and mental wellbeing.
During this workshop, we will explore questions on how our medical care and educational systems-at large (US) inhibit our ability to make the time to show we genuinely care, which is the true essence of why we got involved in medical care in the first place. We will explore the boundaries we need to protect ourselves so we can continue to give and care with compassion- without compromising ourselves and our connections with others. We will discuss methods for communicating your learned wisdom of these boundaries to support and prepare students and colleagues bearing witness to loss and suffering.
This poignant workshop gets to the heart of the “teaching-caring dance” experienced in nurse settings. Upon completion of this workshop, you will be refamiliarized with practices that nurture, re-energize and heal. We will also learn from one another on how to best demonstrate, communicate, and integrate these practices into our daily routines.
Juggling multiple responsibilities, managing financial unpredictability, taming tensions of others… and it is only 9 am. Sound familiar? On average, we spend 80% of our day operating in this default mode of constant fight or flight. This mode is exhausting, results in errors, reduces our memory retention, creates dis-ease, and often leaves us wondering when we can catch a break to just slow down. When we are living in this mode, it feels as if we are all alone and no one understands. This lack of connection inhibits our relationship to ourselves, others, and our environment.
Learn how you can minimize the constant sources of stress throughout your day by strengthening meaningful connections. You will learn how to identify the early indicators for when you are operating in a fight-flight-freeze mode and apply cost effective, self-care strategies to get out of that mindset. Material is grounded in the research and coursework of notable subject matter experts ranging from Harvard Medical School to the Mayo Clinic on the neuroscience, psychology, and sociology of resilience and mental wellbeing and is presented in an engaging manner.
Upon completion of this workshop, you will receive practical tactics on how to identify stress indicators in yourself and others and tools to fortify a practice of intentionality and greater awareness to the connections that nurture you.
